The brief for this project was to design a piece of infrastructure for the city of Genoa. My design is set in the 1950s after the war when there was a push to rebuild the city and a focus on protecting the art and history that had not been destroyed.

 

Taking inspiration from British Shadow Factories, the idea was to create tunnels constructed within the hills of the city that would become an archive for the art and pieces of history whilst making them more accessible to the public by allowing residents and visitors to use the tunnel as a walkway to navigate the city around its sometimes harsh topography.

The inverted black and white style for the drawings was heavily influenced by the subterranean site and cave like atmosphere that I designed within the interior spaces of the tunnel. The entrances, the only interaction with the context are designed to stand out and draw attention to the infrastructure below the city.
