Technical Project 2018

Psychiatric Teaching Hospital

Awards:

Best Technical Resolution on behalf of Price & Myers 2018

For this project the brief was to redesign a tower from the Tower of London competition in 1890 and place it near to one of the sites of the new Crossrail stations. The programme for the tower had to be related to a Victorian issue from the time and I chose a Psychiatric Hospital that could be used to teach students the profession as well.

The main concept was to integrate the awareness of mental health into society using this tower which included public spaces for visitors or residents in the city. The entrance was a public green space, the teaching space was above that and there were varying levels of security rooms were above that. Each room and floor of the tower was designed based on the security level of the patients, the area of the space and the type of spaces needed on that floor.
