Dissertation 2019

Who defines what 'Good Student Accommodation' is?

The original aim of my dissertation was to investigate the connection between the current student accommodation provision at Nottingham Trent University, and the likelihood that improvements to it would increase student retention to the university. Through research throughout the literature review, and from the primary data conducted however, a different question and research topic evolved; who defines what ‘good accommodation’ is? This was important and interesting to research due to the rising expectations of student accommodation that stems from the changes in the tuition fees in 2012.

In the literature review four main concepts were found which I then translated into a conceptual framework used throughout the dissertation. Information was collected from the university, prospective students and existing students using both primary and secondary sources and through in-depth analysis I found that the university, prospective students and existing students each have their own opinion on ‘good accommodation’ based on their own priorities. ‘Good accommodation’ however is based on the prospective students personal needs which would benefit from the insight of an existing student.

Below are extracts from my final year dissertation.
