After my interview or even before I started looking at places to live in NY, just to see how much things were and what not. I knew it was going to be expensive but wanted to know what I was working with. Late June, after I knew I had got the job and was in the visa process I started looking at various websites to find a roommate! I had previously considered living alone but decided that living with someone or people would not only be safer but a lot motor fun as well!
I googled best websites to use and began my search! I used Symbi, Spare Room, Craigslist and Street Easy and Naked apartments when I was looking to live alone.
Symbi was the best in my opinion and where I found the apartment I'll be living in and the person I'll be living with (Hi if you're reading!). You log in with Facebook, create a profile; hobbies, interests, occupation, neighbourhoods you want to live in, your budget, personal description and then you rate other users! You can see when you've matched with someone, can start a conversation and hopefully find a place to stay!
As I've never been to NY before, location, safety and the person I'd be living with were the most important areas. I wanted somewhere quite central so I could explore, safe so I wouldn't be too worries about coming home late or in the dark and a nice and friendly roommate who I could potentially explore the city with! All of which I have found! I saw the apartment and met my future roommate yesterday and then signed today!
All I have to do now is furnish my room! :)
